ANTI-MINE ACTIVITIES IN UKRAINE AND WORLDWIDE ⠀

21 July 2022

The team of the Giving Joy foundation attended the corresponding online lecture.

Such lectures are conducted by representatives of the international organization https://www.halotrust.org/. For more than thirty years, the organization has been saving lives and helping war-torn communities rebuild by making their lands safe.

When a conflict ends, the land is too often littered with landmines and other dangerous explosives. Families live in fear. They cannot plant crops, and everyday activities such as going to school and delivering groceries are fraught with risk. The organization is sure that "the real peace will not come until their land is safe."

Unfortunately, our reality is that in Ukraine, people also need to know the rules for handling explosive objects.

Since the foundation's activities are related to work with communities in the region, this training was very important for us. We also invited city public and youth organizations to join it.

At this lecture:

  • We were taught to plan the preparation steps for trips to communities where territories may be mined.
  • We talked about how to better make travel routes to potentially dangerous places.
  • We were told how to behave if one of the beneficiaries brings any explosive object.
  • We learned a plan for the development of team and project participant safety measures, etc.

Now we feel a little more confident. However, we understand that our awareness is not enough. We must be extremely careful and always refer only to specialists, without amateur explosive handling.

We remind you that if you see a potentially dangerous object, call 101 and wait for the emergency services. Do not take anything in your hands, do not approach, if possible - step aside to a safe distance, if not - stay in place until rescuers arrive.

We will invite representatives of The Halo Trust to hold lectures for adults and children again. So if you would benefit from information on the safe handling of explosives, let us know.

Be careful and responsible! Peace to us!
